Saltwater Floating Dock Hardware Built to Last
Saltwater is unforgiving. The only dock hardware that stands up to it long term is 316 stainless steel. At Dock Hardware, we design and manufacture marine-grade components engineered for floating docks in harsh coastal environments — where corrosion, movement, and UV exposure destroy ordinary steel.
Why 316 Stainless Is the Gold Standard for Saltwater Floating Docks
Saltwater is one of the most aggressive environments any material can face. Chlorides from salt attack metals, causing rust, pitting, and crevice corrosion that spread unseen until a bracket fails. That’s why professional dock builders and marinas rely on 316 stainless steel — it’s not just “rust-resistant,” it’s truly marine-grade.
316 stainless contains molybdenum, an element that dramatically improves resistance to saltwater corrosion. It also forms a self-healing oxide layer, so even if it’s scratched or abraded, it won’t start rusting like galvanized steel.
- Exceptional resistance to pitting and chloride corrosion
- Requires no coatings or re-galvanizing — corrosion resistance is in the metal itself
- Maintains full structural strength for decades
- Pairs perfectly with stainless pins and fasteners for a unified system
- Proven in marinas, boatyards, and oceanfront residential docks
How Other Materials Fall Short in Saltwater
Zinc coatings erode quickly in saltwater, exposing base steel to rust. Once the coating fails, corrosion spreads rapidly inside welds and joints — shortening dock life to just a few seasons.
Commonly called “stainless,” but not marine-grade. 304 will eventually pit and tea-stain in coastal environments, especially around splash zones and tidal movement.
Lightweight and corrosion-resistant, but lacks the strength and load-bearing ability of stainless in structural dock framing. It also suffers galvanic corrosion when paired with dissimilar metals.
The choice for saltwater floating docks. Built with molybdenum for true marine-grade protection, 316 holds up against salt, spray, and years of use without losing strength or finish.
Performance That Pays for Itself
The real cost of dock hardware isn’t the upfront price — it’s replacement, downtime, and labor when parts fail. With 316 stainless dock hardware, you’re investing once for decades of reliability. It prevents structural flex, holds torque under wave load, and keeps floating docks secure under constant motion.
Every piece we produce is precision-made, corrosion-tested, and ready for immediate installation. No coatings. No rework. Just clean, strong, USA-made hardware designed to handle the harshest marine conditions.

Saltwater Floating Dock Hardware — FAQ
What makes 316 stainless better for saltwater than 304?
316 stainless includes molybdenum, which gives it superior resistance to chloride corrosion — the main cause of pitting in 304 stainless. It’s the difference between a dock that looks good for two years and one that lasts twenty.
Will stainless steel still rust in saltwater?
316 stainless resists corrosion extremely well, but any stainless can develop surface discoloration if it’s not rinsed occasionally. The key difference: 316’s corrosion doesn’t spread internally or weaken the structure.
Can I mix stainless and aluminum dock parts?
We don’t recommend it. In saltwater, mixed metals cause galvanic corrosion. If you must mix, isolate contact points using nylon or rubber washers.
Do you ship stainless hardware nationwide?
Yes. All Dock Hardware 316 stainless products are stocked in the U.S. and ship fast anywhere in the continental United States.
Build It Once. Build It for the Coast.
Saltwater doesn’t forgive shortcuts. That’s why professional builders and coastal homeowners trust Dock Hardware 316 stainless dock components — hardware that stands up to the elements year after year.
